  • Oh, joy and happiness...

I've only watched the last twenty minutes or so, but Scotland have just won an international rugby match... be still my exuberantly beating heart.

I shall be wearing my Scotland Shirt with pride tomorrow!

The grin will take a long, long time to wear off my face.

Listen, I support Scotland regardless, just let me enjoy this one!!

  • Caffeine is an essential nutrient!!

"What do you mean, caffeine is not an essential nutrient? You are wrong, wrong, wrong!!" was uttered, in loud, outraged tones, to the computer game who insisted caffeine was not an essential nutrient, by the gorgeous man in who's honour and memory I am drinking incredibly strong Fairtrade Coffee in the largest mug I could find.

  • Stunned, but not necessarily surprised...

and now back to the job hunting again.

But, I feel surprisingly cheerful, to say nothing of liberated. It opens up a whole gamut of employment or retraining possibilities, not just ones that fit in what what I've already got! I was getting quite, quite stressed by the thought of trying to fulfil my current work commitments, whilst adding in another job - which I needed to do, but the thought of juggling three part time jobs, all of which needed a certain flexibility was just getting too much.

Now, I really can do what I want to!!!

  • That could have been worse

Work finished a bit early today, which was really unexpected! I was geared up for a much later day. So, I thought I was going to have the treat of getting home before the rush hour really got going, despite the slight delay to the train, as I caught a bus almost immediately at the interchange - a rarity.

Then...we stopped, and didn't move, for there was an accident. We went nowhere for about 3/4 of an hour! (It didn't look good.... lots of police cars blocking the road at both ends, two ambulances, at least. We were a bit too close to it all for my comfort, but there were those who were interested.) Once I'd done a bit of praying, I got my book out and read, and resigned myself to getting home when I got there.

But, I got a bus almost immediately in the city centre, which is almost unprecedented, and was only twenty minutes later than I'd guessed I might be.

It being the wet, wild and windy night it is, I did get very wet on the short walk from bus stop to house, so it was hot bath, followed by humungous pizza and now heaps of laziness.

  • Today I have

...used all my supplies of tact and patience up before breakfast. I phoned the neighbouring secondary school to complain after being sworn at by a pupil who calmly leapt over a locked gate, to walk across the front garden, rather than round it, and told me where to go when I asked him to get out. He was the 30th this morning to trespass, but at least the others left when asked, and kept their swearing to under their breath. It's certainly better in the evenings now, but mornings have to seen to be believed.

...retrieved enough tact and patience to deal with someone teaching me to suck eggs.

...decided it was all much easier in the day of the Cassette Recorder.

...cleaned the racks of the oven, the oven glass door, and three saucepans that were interestingly coated with baked on oily stuff. No, I didn't dare ask how long they had been stored like that, or how old it was. They are pristinely clean now.

...decided I need a months sleep.

  • Who invented Single Digit a.m times?

For some weeks now, I've been setting my alarm for 05.25 a.m. to be up in time to catch the 06.18 a.m. bus, which fortunately stops almost immediately outside the house, three times a week.

This is un-natural Japes behaviour, and I am fervently praying for a cessation of a need for this. Not only because my body is now reluctantly adjusting to that as "normal" but, when a not sleeping episode takes place, as has happened this night, I have no room for a couple of extra hours sleep.

Methinks I'd better not enjoy myself playing with sharp tools this afternoon, I am unlikely to avoid accidents, and I have enough scars from this weekly activity.

  • It was a good idea, but

it didn't work. I'm going to have to wait and get it sorted another time. I can do no more, and I have apologised for my loss of temper, which made me feel better, even if there is no further resolution. I find it very odd someone who feels it's OK to turn up on my doorstep at any time, including some unacceptable times, and expect instant attention and hospitality from yours truly regardless of the convenience, doesn't like it when I ask for a conversation, and expect him to respond there and then.

So, I'm recovering with a plate of toast, sitting watching TV... um, and singing along to Aristocats.

  • Did I say slow and gentle?

That was before I filled thirty green bin liners full of leaves.

That was before I wrote a 1,000 word reference.

That was before I negotiated a peace treaty.

That was before I did two loads of laundry.

That was before I realised tomorrow could be a very difficult day at work.

I am now going to go and have a bath, and wash my hair, and consider what to put in tonight's veggie risotto.

  • Working through the Never Ending List.

I swear that list never gets any shorter - but I have tackled most of the worst problems on it, and even had so am awarding myself a gentle, slow day after the angst and traumas of the last few days. Most of which have been resolved, but some will take a little longer.

I will be tackling leaves again, once I've had my coffee, and a chocolate biscuit or three.

  • That was an interesting week

...in which I wondered if Hallowe'en brought out the Christian Lunatics, just what Pink, Fluffy, Medium, Romans were, and how did we get to November already?

...in which I considered re-designing the Tree. The autumnal leaf shedding variety, that is.

...in which I made another layer of decisions.

...in which I was quite impressed with my sums.

...in which I was surprised by my reactions to various things.
